The MarLiant IT Network, made by Netwave Systems, is a NonStop Computing Platform for Mission-Critical IT applications of ultra-compact design and enabling easy installation. It features the MarLiant 8000AS, a fully Redundant Application Server, loaded with Windows Server 2008 software, to create a Single & Multi-user Windows environment. Client-Server Technology is used to connect Marliant 6000 solid-state Thin-Client Workstations via a secure and scalable Rapid Super Ring Topology Network with Single-Wire PoE Cat-5 cabling. Resources and applications are stored on the central Application Server(s) using centralized security and policy enforcement to reduce the risk of malicious software threats and non-compliant user-downloaded software. The Server features RAID configured, exchangeable, solid-state compact drives (SSCD) with automated back-up functionality, fail-over and fallback hardware to ensure a high Quality of Service. Remote monitoring, access & control via satellite and/or 3G/HSDPA and/or WIFI allows on-shore IT departments to easily monitor and manage the system. A MarLiant Supervisor module, specifically developed for the maritime industry, monitors, manages and reports the status of system hardware and resources. A Remote Update Facility, in conjunction with NAP, will secure up-to-date application software and virus protection at all times. The combination of the above facilitates centralized maintenance, management, remote deployment and troubleshooting of software, reducing down-time and Total Cost of Ownership and increasing service levels, reliability and availability. If preferred, (optionally encrypted) SSCD's, instead of remote connectivity, may be used to deploy new or updated applications. The server distributes software applications, including all current Windows XP, Vista and 7 applications, to MarLiant 6000, crew replaceable, solid-state thin-clients. Thus reducing cost of hardware and maintenance and increasing security through virus, worm and Trojan protection by restricting access to external data storage devices (USB sticks, CD's etc.) The Windows Server 2008 software includes Network Access Protection which, in combination with a System Health Agent, monitors clients compliance and automatically limits and remedies access of non-compliant clients. The system comes with a predefined, best practice, configuration and pre-cabling for easy network deployment using approved master disks. A MarLiant CFG configuration tool enables system deployment or modifications by IT-unskilled staff and/or crew. The Single-Wire Rapid Super Ring Network facilitates easy, fast and cost-effective network installation. The system can be installed equally well on board of new-build vessels and retrofits, either as stand-alone system or co-reside with existing ship-board servers and/or PC's used as Thin-Clients. MarLiant is specifically developed for the maritime industry, can be serviced and maintained on-board by non-IT skilled crew and is supported by a world-wide service network.
